Dewey Dell

AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE

PRESENTED BY ARTS HOUSE IN ASSOCIATION WITH MELBOURNE FESTIVAL

CONCEPT BY AGATA CASTELLUCCIDEMETRIO CASTELLUCCITEODORA CASTELLUCCI & EUGENIO RESTA

Six eerie beings dance out a ferocious drama amid the foreboding rumblings of an icy alien landscape. Winter fades, and spring blooms in violence.

Dynamic young Italian artists’ collective Dewey Dell have joined forces with manga artist Yuichi Yokoyama and Kuro Tanino, Artistic Director of Japanese theatre company Niwagekidan Penino, to create Marzo, an impeccably stylized dance work with a stunning visual aesthetic – eccentric and fantastical.

"The find of the Festival was Marzo... I loved the hip music, its cool white framing shell, and its vivid costumes."

OMAHA SUN TIMES (on Marzo at the Venice Biennale)

Lifting its name from William Faulkner, Dewey Dell was formed in 2007 by four young artists: Teodora, Demetrio and Agata Castellucci, and Eugenio Resta. Last seen in Melbourne as part of the Next Wave Festival in 2012, Dewey Dell continues to garner attention as a unique and highly original force in European dance.

DEWEY DELL (ITA)
Dewey Dell was formed in 2007 by Teodora, Demetrio, Agata Castellucci and Eugenio Resta. They have strong skills in different areas. This took each of them to give priority to a specific aspect of the work, without giving up a collective modeling of materials. Teodora is therefore author of choreographies, Demetrio composes the music, Eugenio designs the lights and takes care of the technical aspects of production, while Agata assists in choreographic creation and looks also after aspects of organization. Since 2007 Dewey Dell is part of Fies Factory and from 2013 is supported by apap - advancing performing arts project. The name Dewey Dell is a tribute to Faulkner and to the young girl of "As I lay dying", under whose look the company prepares itself to wander towards the abyss.
