Russia Classical Music

Borodin Quartet

PRESENTED BY MUSICA VIVA IN ASSOCIATION WITH MELBOURNE FESTIVAL

A living fragment of classical music history, the legendary Moscow-based Borodin Quartet commands unique respect in the world of chamber music.

Ruben Aharonian violin
Sergei Lomovsky violin
Igor Naidin viola
Vladimir Balshin cello

The Quartet enjoyed a close relationship with Dmitri Shostakovich, who personally supervised its studies of his pieces – now widely regarded as definitive interpretations; the printed music used by the group still bears markings in the composer’s own hand.

“For sheer musical presence, it has few equals.”
