THE SACRED AND THE PROFANE – RITUALS OF NOW
DANCEHOUSE

Premiere season

PRESENTED BY MELBOURNE FESTIVAL AND DANCEHOUSE

Melbourne’s Dancehouse presents the second edition of Dance Territories, a biennial event showcasing boundary pushing works of contemporary choreography.

Two programs pair works by local and international choreographers in a charged collision of dance, highlighting different approaches to similar subject matter.

‘The Sacred and the Profane’ sees Tony Yap and Yumi Umiumare perform their exploration of nothingness, Zero, Zero, alongside a playful work by Nicole Mossoux and Patrick Bonté (Compagnie Mossoux-Bonté) featuring three obsessive coffee drinkers.

‘Rituals of Now’ pairs the world premiere of Linda Luke’s multimedia work Still Point Turning, inspired by the TS Eliot poem Burnt Norton, with French choreographer Eléonore Didier’s reflection on the passage of time, Solides, Lisboa.

Bold and unexpected, this is choreography at its most forthright – a continent-spanning expedition to the frontiers of contemporary dance.

A refreshing return to the basics… Rigorous, austere, riveting.
