Big hART Events

Big hART is committed to the arts and social change. Collaborating with the invisible, marginalised and disadvantaged of our nation who are often denied a voice, this ambitious organisation gives these groups the tools with which to tell their own stories.

For the 2014 Melbourne Festival, we are proud to be working with Big hART to present: Murru, a free outdoor concert in Federation Square following Tanderrum; Hipbone Sticking Out, at the Playhouse Arts Centre Melbourne, a major theatrical event giving the Ngarluma and Yindijibarndi people a powerful voice; a forum on juvenile justice, One in Two, at the Wheeler Centre; and a series of films and a masterclass illuminating Big hART’s own story through its projects and unique creative methods.

About the Yijala Yala project

Hipbone Sticking Out and Murru are part of the  Yijala Yala Project a long-term, multi-platform arts project based in Ieramugadu (Roebourne) focused on telling the story of the community’s culture, history and future in a range of media: theatre, film, games, iPad applications and music. Through arts and digital media skill development and content creation, it explores the inter-connection between past, present and future, young people and older generations, ancient and modern culture and how critical they all are to the heritage of the ‘now’.
