Road Trip

AURORA ORCHESTRA

Australian Premiere

Part of Aurora Orchestra Residency series.

PRESENTED BY Melbourne Festival and Monash University Academy of Performing Arts

WITH KATIE NOONAN & ALLAN CLAYTON
CONDUCTED BY NICHOLAS COLLON

Inspired by the ghost of Jack Kerouac, Road Trip is a free-flowing, folk-tinged tour through the dusty backroads and sweeping plains of America – as seen by some of its greatest composers.

Drifting west to east, from the restless rushes of John Adams’s Chamber Symphony to the gentle lushness of Copland’s Appalachian Spring, Road Trip surveys an oft-overlooked edge of the classical world, where the modern arrived so fast it swept all tradition before it. The timeless works are set against songs by Paul Simon and Katie Noonan, along with newly commissioned folk arrangements from Nico Muhly.

Featuring our very own Katie Noonan as a guest vocalist, Road Trip is a sonic venture beneath the skies, toward a distant horizon.

Mr Burger Food Truck will be operating onsite along with an outdoor bar from 5:30pm
