Art, Politics & Protest

CURATED BY RICHARD MOORE

George Orwell once wrote, “The opinion that art should have nothing to do with politics is itself a political attitude”.

For many artists in this subversive selection of documentary films, the intersection between art and politics is an existential reality. For others – the Italian jesters in The Alien’s Dream, and Caveh Zahedi in The Sheik and I – politics is a source of provocation and ridicule.

Politics marches on, and artists are left with no choice but to respond. In too many instances, they have had to put their own lives on the line in support of social and political justice.

All films in the Art, Politics & Protest section are unclassified, meaning that patrons must be 18 or older in order to be admitted to sessions.
